I really think you'd like "The Tudors." Granted there are several scenes in the first few episodes that make you feel like you should go talk to your Bishop, but those tapered off a bit when the writers and network became more sure of themselves. A little... It's still exquisite though. The camera work, costumes, acting, everything. Not to mention my favorite person on the planet who plays King Henry.
And ok, sissified monsters? Wtf? One word for you: bollucks. The whole point of the series is that these creatures have absolute power, can do ANYTHING, and choose not to. What would you say to someone who made a judgment decision on something without trying it first? You should read them.
