Best Songs of All Time

So frequently I recommend songs to friends with the preface "This has got to be one of my top ten favorite songs of all time." I'm sure I've said that so often that I have about 100+ songs in my top ten. So, I figured I'd take a go at it. It should be noted that these are what I consider to be the ten BEST songs not my ten FAVORITE songs. Now the question remains: Can I condense the list to just ten? I'll try...

In alphabetical order:

"Comfortably Numb" - Pink Floyd

"Con Te Partiro" - Andrea Bocelli and Sarah Brightman

"Dear Mama" - 2Pac

"I Walk The Line" - Johnny Cash

"Imagine" - John Lennon

"Layla" - Derek and the Dominos (video is of a 1999 Eric Clapton concert)

"Let It Be" - The Beatles

"One" - U2

"(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction" - The Rolling Stones

"Stairway to Heaven" - Led Zeppelin

My "bubble" songs (in alphabetical order):

"Bohemian Rhapsody" - Queen
"Crazy Train" - Ozzy Osbourne
"Hotel California" - The Eagles
"Johnny B. Goode" - Chuck Berry
"Light My Fire" - The Doors
"London Calling" - The Clash
"My Generation" - The Who
"Purple Haze" - Jimi Hendrix
"Redemption Song" - Bob Marley
"Tears in Heaven" - Eric Clapton

Great picks. You missed a bunch of good songs bro ... I didn't see any Bad Religion, Grateful Dead,or Marley. You had limited Floyd and Queen.

It was a good start.

Good songs Chris but who do you kick out of the top ten to make room for those?

And a "Top Ten", by nature, is limited.

And remember my aforementioned premise: "...these are what I consider to be the ten BEST songs not my ten FAVORITE songs."

I guess you will need to define what the term best means ... cause if you are defining it as the ones that sold the most or changed the most people then you need to throw some Mike Jackson.

So please define what best means and I can properly play this game.

Combination of personal preference, musical talent, message and influence.

Here's a personal preference issue I think: "Wish You Were Here" is like my 6th favorite PF song.

The other two are just cases of your insanity. LOL!!!

Not that the Rolling Stone Top 500 list is the unquestioned authority but...

Michael Jackson:
#58 Billy Jean
#337 Beat It

Bad Religion and Jane's Addiction didn't even make the list.

To be fair...Rolling Stone had vastly different opinions of my selections too.

Comfortably Numb - #314
Con Te Partiro - Didn't Make the List
Dear Mama - Didn't Make the List
I Walk The Line - #30
Imagine - #3
Layla - #27
Let It Be - #20
One - #36
Satisfaction - #2
Stairway to Heaven - #31
